Dave was a great bloke who fulfilled many roles in his lifetime both in Water Polo and elsewhere. He played at Enfield and Shiverers as well as running Potters Bar Imperial Toucans Water Polo Club. He made a notable contribution to the London League and associated competitions. Dave's dedication to Water Polo was lifelong. His refereeing at top national & international games and in the National League was exemplary and earned him the tongue-in-cheek title "Major Webzell" amongst those who played under him or officiated with him. As GB Team Manager in the 1980s he accompanied teams to Moscow and Holland. We remember him as a great guy and a steady hand at the tiller.

Dave did my practical assessment on my first refereeing course - I hope I can live up to his standards!
Thoughts
Always like playing when Dave reffed - he understood the game, the rules, but also that players don't understand if you just stand there blowing your whistle - so he invented a new technique - speaking :-) On top of that he was a great chap who always enojoyed a good story over a pint. Will be fondly remembered.
