George was born at Stilia village in Greece. He moved to Athens when he was 17 to study to be an Electrical engineer and then joined the telecommunication company OTE as an apprentice where he worked for 30 years. In March 1969 some friends introduced him to Georgia and they went out to the theatre to watch the 40 carats. They fell in love and got married in December 1970. They lived in Imittos and had two children Gianni and Nana. Later he became a proud granddad to Yann, Nana's son. He was a dedicated granddad and passionate about teaching Yann about Greece and Greek culture. His other passion was nature. He was an accomplished gardener and cook. In June 2008 he was diagnosed with advanced cancer. Despite chemotherapy and radiotherapy he continued to deteriorate and was admitted to St Luke's for palliative care. The staff was amazing as they had to learn Greek to communicate with George and his wife. They made the whole family welcome and treated George with the outmost respect and care.

Thoughts

Still thinking of you and missing you. The kids have grown up and Yann still talks about his amazing granddad.
