I'm setting up this tribute page in the memory of my dad, Michael Deeley, who passed away on the 5th of February 2014. A pretty unique man, a loving father, husband, son, brother and friend, he will be missed every day. This tribute is a way of trying to not let memories fade away, so please feel free to leave any stories, photos, or messages here for us all to look back on and share. Nothing good comes from someone passing away, but any donations that you would give here will help St Luke's give the same kind of care, respect and treatment to others when they need it most. Thank you for visiting and reading.

Tonight for those near Sheffield, there is a night of bands and DJs playing dad's old pub, The Washington, to raise funds for St Luke's. I don't know any details really but have a read here: http://www.stlukeshospice.org.uk/news/news_Washington

Added by James Deeley - 19/04/2014

I just found this page via The Washington; so, so sad to hear about Mick's passing. I met Mick when I worked close by the Washington and the place soon became a regular haunt. I was eighteen and wet behind the ears and he took me under his wing, I guess sensing a lost soul, unsure of where he was going and what he was doing. We spoke often, many times he let me stay for "just one more" after work drink and the conversations would range from music and art to deep emotion; he was a man of many levels and I never felt I got to know him well enough. Time moved on, he left the Washington and we lost touch, but every time I bumped into him around town I'd be greeted in the same fashion; big grin and a huge embrace. My thoughts are with James and Jill, I know the hole that Mick's passing will leave is a huge one. RIP Mr.Deeley; I wouldnt be the person I am without your wisdoms...thank you.

Dear James I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. I have only just found out today. I have known your Dad and Mum since I was a child. Then as an adult I have very special memories of the times I spent socialising with them, in the Limit, the Hallamshire and the Washington. Great times with great people! Sadly missed! Both my Mum and I send our condolences to you and Jill. love from Adele and Enid xx

Added by Adele Jones - 18/02/2014

Hi Jim, I first met your Dad and Mum in the crazy Daizy in the late 70s, we were great Roxy and Bowie fans and dressed accordingly. Over the years Mick and Laura were avid supporters of all our club ventures and I never heard a bad word said about anyone. Will be sadly missed by all who had the priviledge to know him.

Discovered the news today about Mick's passing. First met Mick & Laura at The Hallamshire, then became a regular at The Washington. Been a while since I last chatted with Mick, so today's news has been a big shock. One of a select few people in my life that I can say that had my love, respect, admiration. A gentleman, a style icon and a lover of some of the finest music ever made. God Bless Ya Buddy ... X

Hi james, so sorry to hear about your dad :'( Its been a long long time since I saw your dad back in the washingtons halcyon days. Mick was so warm friendly and always such hood fun. He will be missed by so many people he was a legend. seems silly to say hope you are ok, but I hope that things are not too bad . Love from Linda x

Added by Linda Wright - 13/02/2014

James, so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. I was only thinking of him earlier today, and wondering what he was up to. I first met Michael when he and Laura ran the Hallamshire pub on West Street, probably in the early nineties. He had unforgettable style, which not many men can carry off! I got to know Michael better when he ran the Washington, where I was a diehard regular. We chatted a lot over the years and both he and Laura became like surrogate family to me during my many trials! Sheffield had lost one of its legendary figures, RIP Michael. James, best love to you, you're very young to have lost both parents.

Added by Janey Jacks - 13/02/2014

Thank you to everyone who has donated and left memories and messages. We are all very grateful and touched by you taking the time. For those that are able to make it the funeral service is being held at City Road Cemetery on Thursday 20th of February, at 1.45pm. All friends of my dad are welcome.

There was nobody quite like Mick Deeley. We could never make our minds up when we first met, but it was probably in the Limit! Shared some great and exciting times and some sad times, too. The world is a poorer place without him. Remember the Saturday night bagel runs at the Ship and Blue Ball...
