Alright Star! More often than not the greeting of Bob, a loving dad of 8, grandad, brother, partner and friend. No matter the tough day you’ve had in life, at work or school you’d always feel safer after those words. A man who would go out of his way to help anyone, always an ear for listening to your problems and a mouth for giving advice….. Normally followed by “Want a coffee,”. Bob cherished a lot in life, his love for Formula 1, his affection for Reggae and also his passion for fixing, transforming and mending… admittedly not always with the best results. But above all his number one thing to cherish in life was his family, the only thing Bob feared about passing was leaving all his loved ones behind. Anyone who knew Bob has a story to tell, stories that would never fail to put a smile on your face. Stories that will live on past Bob, a legacy. But a legacy more so endowed by his brave move from Jamaica to the United Kingdom during the windrush and the generations of families, degrees, careers, lives and opportunities that his brave decision gave us all. A legacy that each and every one of us who knew him are a part of. Upon receiving his diagnosis, there were never any complaints. Bob had no place for tears, he wanted to tackle this disease head on and fight and thats just what he did. Outperforming all our expectations and even up until the day of his passing Bob did all this whilst telling jokes with the very biggest of smiles on his face. See even as ill as Bob was, he was still looking after us all. The brilliant team at St. Luke’s (Clifford House) supported us all with levels of service and care that we can’t be thankful enough for. From the staff in the canteen to the nurses, the cleaners to the ever present smiles as you entered reception! During the very worst of times we were made to feel comfortable, at home and looked after. Whether it be food, beverages, support or even just a friendly face to chat to or a safe space to relax in, all were given at St. Luke’s. Nothing the amazing staff at St. Luke’s did for us and Bob will ever be forgotten. Oh… did I mention that fab coffee machine! In loving memory of Bob, wouldn’t it be incredible to give something back. Something to keep this brilliant hospice running and providing the same great care that us and Bob received to others in need. Every little helps, no matter how small. The facility costs £10m a year to run with only 25% of this being funded by the NHS. They need us just as we needed them. Lastly, to Bob! You will be dearly missed, by all of us. We love you, I love you! Until we meet again and I hear Alright Star! You were always my star… Goodbye Grandad.

Bob - he was the star and his legacy will shine forever bright in his family. Proud to have known him and eternally grateful for the love he gave to my boys. They will take with them grandad’s outlook on life (and his jokes) as a positive example. Thanks also to the family and St Luke’s for looking after my boys on their visits to Grandad, it made things a little easier for them over the last week ❤️

The past few days have been a real struggle for myself and family alike. I not only lost my Grandad, I also lost a true friend. I’d like to thank the staff for the amazing care they provided my Grandad throughout his time at St Luke’s. In addition, I would to thank my Grandad for all the great experiences we shared and memories made.
