My dad was born in Dunfermline in 1944. He was the second child of Edward (Eddie) Kelly and Mary (May) Kelly and grew up in Inverkeithing with his sisters Sheila, Mary and Patricia. He attended St John's Catholic primary school and then went on to attend Blair's junior seminary and Drygrange senior seminary, before leaving to study psychology at Glasgow university. He had lots of stories to tell about all the parties he use to organise and the fun he would get up too. He met my mum at her birthday party in Edinburgh and they used to joke about how my mum initially refused his advances, but luckily he won her round in the end. They moved to London together and both spoke fondly of their time living with friends and family, and of the fun they had at Ruskin house. They had their first son Andrew while living in Croydon and soon after moved to Sheffield. There they had Marie-Anne and Daniel and moved into their family home on Albany road.

My dad enjoyed lots of hobbies. He was a keen golfer and often played with his good friend Chris. He loved running and had run the London and Sheffield Marathons on more than 1 occasion. He also enjoyed cycling and he loved meeting his good friend Andy and god daughter Sophia and would come and proudly tell us stories of what Sophia and her younger sister Evania were up to. He had an adventurous steak and other past times over the years included diving, flying a microlight and learning to sail. He was also a real life James Bond often spotted around Loch Allan in his speed boat. Of all his adventurous hobbies probably his number 1 passion was climbing mountains. He has climbed more than I could count and used to take us along as children to see the beautiful sights, though we rarely appreciated it. One of his favourite stories was me asking as a child if this Glen Coe had a roof on it.

My most recent favourite memory of my dad is him as a Grandad (Grandan to Conor). He told the most amazing stories and was absolutely adored by his grandchildren Conor, Lars and Úna and was so excited about the arrival of Hugh. He had a brilliant deep soothing singing voice and would often be able to sooth them when nothing else could. Family and friends were so important to my dad and he loved giving us updates about our cousins and talking about things he had learned on his family whatsapp. He was one of the most loving and generous people I know. We will miss him so much and I am so glad I have so many wonderful memories of him.

We chose St Luke's as a charity as they cared for my mum towards the end of her life. We visited St Luke's as a family every year at Christmas and its a place that has special meaning for us and my dad had continued to support them over the years.

Remembering a man who lived life to the full, and, in the sadly short time we knew him, was spirited, generous and affectionate. Our sympathy is with his children and extended family.

I loved my Uncle Chris and my Aunty Ali very much. They were both such warm, funny and generous people. It’s a comfort to think of them both being reunited again.
