George Rhodes Stewart passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of St. Lukes Hospice on August 20, aged 86 years. Beloved husband of Ann also a loving father and grandfather to Jonathan, Philip, Beverley, Sarah, Amy, Max, Molly, Finn, Charlie and Ben. George was born and raised within sight of Bramall Lane, however, throughout his life he was much happier being an active participant in sport rather than watching it, playing football every week up to the age of 69. George was a highly qualified dental technician. His career progressed to the point that he ran the School of Dental Technology at Charles Clifford Hospital in Sheffield. On his reluctant retirement, George worked for two local dentists from his home laboratory. George was not someone who liked a fuss. When he realised he was terminally ill George declared that he was not afraid of dying, and that he was fortunate to have lived such a long and healthy life with a lovely wife, family and home. Above all, George was a family man, and his passing will leave a huge gap in all our lives. George's message to us all during the last difficult year was... Don't worry about me. I've had a lovely life. Make the most of what you have, time passes so quickly. The care and support George received at St Luke's Hospice during his final two weeks was simply incredible, and we ask that any donations in memory of George are made to St Luke's.
