John (or Mike, depending how you knew him) was full of life, energy and enthusiasm. The only child of Alice and John, he had a happy childhood and excelled at all sports. A keen mountaineer, hiker and pot-holer he met Anne through the Industrial Mission and they married in 1960. Two children, Diane and Rob, followed soon after. John's career flourished and in 1983 he made the brave decision to set up his own company, which continues today. The family grew as Diane married Chris, and Rob married Fiona. John was diagnosed with cancer, but early detection meant a good prognosis and he enjoyed travelling during his retirement with family and friends, and spending time with his grandchildren Jemma and Charlotte. A later diagnosis of Alzheimer's made life more difficult for the family but St Luke's were always there to support. John continued singing and dancing to the end, jiving in the sunshine as grandaughter Jemma married Adam and singing to his new great grandaughter Callie. St Luke's were like family to John and he loved to meet all the familiar faces each time he came. He made friends easily so soon knew everyone in the building. He spent hours in the craft room and produced many lovely gifts that will be treasured now that he's gone. For the last 6 months of his life John was cared for with love and affection by the staff at Moorend Place Care Home. John's family couldn't have coped without the care and support offered by both St Luke's and Moorend Place and would like to thank them for all that they've done.
