Roger's connection to St Luke's Hospice was through his volunteer work at their shops. He mainly helped at the Gleadless shop, but while that was being refurbished, he would go to help at the shops at Crystal Peaks or Manor Top. He spent his time there taking in donations, lifting and carrying heavy items, and sorting out the bins! In March 2017 he received an award for 10 years of voluntary service to the hospice. He didn't want such a big fuss made of him though, and I remember admonishing him because he only told me and my brother about it the day before, so neither of us was able to be there to cheer him on! He was born and raised a Sheffield lad, so I think being able to give something back to the people of Sheffield made him feel proud.
